Topology Optimization : Both shape and topology of the part can be updated using topology optimization. Traditional manufacturing processes are not capable of producing complex parts made from topology optimization.
Parts consolidation : Complex parts require several sub parts that are to be assembled together. This was done as traditional manufacturing processes were not capable of handling the complexity of the part therefore multiple components were made to fit together. 3D printing has eliminated the use of multiple components in the same part by designing the part in a manner where it is produced as a single part, without the need for assembly.
Lattice structures: Lattice structures are three dimensional open cell structures which have repeating unit cells topologically ordered. Incorporating lattice structures in design can help achieve high strength to low mass ratio. These structures are widely being adopted in the aerospace Industry.
