Insight Polymers & Compounding Introduces Two Low-Gloss Additive Masterbatches for Optimal Appearance Boost.


Enhanced by Insight Polymers & Compounding, our latest additions include two cutting-edge low-gloss additive masterbatches meticulously crafted for PLA and PETG FDM (fused deposition modeling) 3D printed systems. Introducing the Insight LAA112 Low Gloss PLA and Insight TCA112 Low Gloss PETG masterbatches—specially formulated to significantly diminish gloss levels, thereby elevating the visual appeal of 3D printed objects. Impressively, these masterbatches achieve this aesthetic enhancement without compromising mechanical properties, ensuring a seamless fusion of style and substance.


Traditional 3D printed components often exhibit conspicuous layer lines and other imperfections that imply a lack of durability, making them suitable primarily for prototypes or single-use applications. Typically, the acceptable utilization level ranges from 10% to 30%. However, the landscape of additive manufacturing has evolved, with a shift towards producing finalized products rather than just prototypes for injection molds.


To align with this evolving trend, we contribute by developing masterbatches that elevate the aesthetics of end-products, making them more visually appealing to customers. With FDM filament serving as the end result and 3D printing establishing itself as a legitimate manufacturing technique, Dr. Pasquale emphasizes the need for the resulting piece to be aesthetically flawless—aiming for 100%, not just 90%. Notably, FDM and other techniques are now widely accepted for low-volume manufacturing. Therefore, 3D-printed parts must exhibit a premium, high-quality appearance to garner customer acceptance in this era of manufacturing evolution.
